Head Coach Lanny Williams

Coach Williams played football, basketball, baseball and ran track for the Mineola High School Yellowjackets. He also played four years of baseball at the collegiate level - one year at Paris Junior College and three years at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. While at Henderson, Williams was named First Team All-Conference Catcher two years with the Reddies and played in the 1991 AIC All-Star baseball game.

 

He continued his baseball career as a 12th round draft pick with the Texas Rangers in 1991 and played six
years of professional baseball in the minors: three with the Texas Rangers and three with the Tyler Wildcatters.

 

Prior to coming to Cedar Park, Coach Williams spent two years as a volunteer assistant at Tyler Junior College
and coached for twenty three years at Brenham.

 

Coach Williams have led his team to the playoffs seven out of nine years as head coach (one year was Covid year), 24 out of his 26 years of coaching.

 

Williams prides himself on his transparency and openness with his players. Each season he tries to find new ideas and ways to reach his players in order to keep his own skills sharp as a coach.

 

Along with being the head coach of the Timberwolves, Coach Williams is the running backs coach for the varsity football team and teaches freshman World Geography at Cedar Park High School. His many accomplishments include being named Brenham High School Teacher of the Year in 2003-2004, Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year in 2003, he was a part of the Greater Houston Area All-Star South coaching staff in 2003, Baseball Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year 2007, a member of the UIL Baseball Advisory Committee since 2013-2017, District 18-4A Coach of the Year 2014, District 19-5A Coach of the Year in 2014, 2015 & 2017, District 25-5A Coach of the Year 2021, HABCA All-Star Game Head Coach in 2014 and a THSBCA Regional Director 2019-2022.

 

His favorite years coaching so far have been the 2009-2011 seasons when coaching in the State Tournament three consecutive years in a row and is looking forward to making the same kind of memories here at CPHS.

 

In 1996, Williams graduated from Texas College in Tyler, Texas with a degree in Physical Education and a minor in History. In 2013 he received his Masters Degree in Educational Administration from Lamar University. Coach Williams and his wife, Vickie, have been married for 29 years. His hobbies include fishing, playing the guitar, riding his road bike, reading and hanging out with other coaches and friends. The Williams’ have two daughters, Britney and Jordyn. Britney is employed with DSHS in Austin as a Program Specialist. Her and her husband, Ken, live in Belton and have two sons, Royce 3 and Beau 1. Jordyn, is an elementary teacher at Lakeway Elementary in Belton ISD, and currently lives in Belton.
